Pioneering Thermal Innovation: My Role in Retiring Nevada’s Last Coal Unit via Natural Gas Repower
March 8, 2026
As an executive in the energy sector, I have the privilege to lead key efforts in the successful conversion of Nevada’s last coal-fired power plant—the North Valmy Generating Station (jointly owned by NV Energy and Idaho Power)—from coal to natural gas generation. This landmark project, involving the repowering of a 522 MW facility near Battle Mountain to achieve approximately 50% emissions reductions while maintaining critical regional reliability and supporting growing demand, marked my first major thermal power plant initiative. I am thrilled with the opportunity to deepen my expertise in thermal generation, building on this foundation to drive efficient, strategic transitions in fossil fuel infrastructure toward more sustainable and reliable operations.
